We use the past simple to talk about things that happened before now.
- I painted a picture in art today.
regular verb: to paint + ed
- Then I ate tomato soup for lunch.
irregular verb: to eat - ate - eaten
To make a negative statement in the past, we use did not (didn´t ).
- We didn´t play football in the field.
To play: Regular verb
- We didn´t go hiking.
To go: Irregular verb.
